The Zakopane Conference on Nuclear Physics,
41st in the series of Zakopane Schools of Physics,
was held in Zakopane, Poland, on September 4 - 10, 2006.
The conference was organized jointly by
The Henryk Niewodniczanski Institute of Nuclear Physics, Polish
Academy of Sciences,
The Marian Smoluchowski Institute of Physics of the Jagiellonian
University,
and The Committee on Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
Lectures and seminars covered new developments in the study of nuclear
structure and nuclear phenomena: from shell model states to highly
collective
excitations, from light to superheavy nuclei, from the exotic proton
drip-line nuclei
to the very neutron-rich nuclear systems. We will discuss the role of todays
nuclear structure research in the understanding of the astrophysical
processes.
A review of latest experimental methods and apparatus will include
presentations
of new opportunities and challenges arising at the radioactive ion beam
facilities.
The 13th Nuclear Physics Workshop
"Maria and Pierre Curie" organized by the Department of Theoretical
Physics of the Maria Curie-Sklodowska University (UMCS) of Lublin
and the Institute of Subatomic Research (IReS) of Strasbourg, took
place in Kazimierz Dolny, September 27th - October 1st, 2006. One central
subject of the conference was
"Pairing & Beyond - 50 Years of the BCS Model"
The main topics which was presented on the Workshop were:
- new aspects of pairing forces in nuclei
and other mesoscopic systems;
- nuclei at the limits of stability;
- superheavy elements;
- dynamical correlations in ground states;
- fusion and fission reactions;
Seminars were devoted both to theoretical and experimental
problems of nuclear phenomena.
