Administrator PNPN, 14 lutego 2005 :

Dear colleagues,

Rez institute following the discussion on the research infrastructures in Central and East Europe going on at the EPS Nuclear Physics Board and NuPECC proposes to organize workshop linked to the activities of the NEEN network.

As concerns the subject of the meeting, main intention originally was to inquire the status of the accelerator (cyclotron) facilities in Central Europe, adjacent devices, and the research activities carried on. The mapping of the potential for cooperation of these facilities had to be discussed, with a possible aim to establish networking at the European recognized level.

Meanwhile, a new networking activity (Cycleur) has been initiated on a wider than NEEN range. It is concerned on the utilization of light ion cyclotron facilities with K of a few tens MeV in the life-science research. To our knowledge, the Krakow, Bratislava, Debrecen, and Rez cyclotrons are considered to participate. The Cycleur project is still under elaboration with the term for application to Brussels at March.

In view of that, the scope and purpose of our meeting needs likely some changes. Life-science aspects are now discussed by another consortium and establishing NEEN cyclotron network also does not seem to be the case at the moment. Nevertheless, we should still have to look for the common points, cooperation and networking within the NEEN.

We propose to limit our meeting to activities in basic (nuclear physics) research at accelerator facilities in NEEN countries. For each facility we assume one talk (~one hour) about the machine status, available devices, etc. Then, shorter talks have to be given about research (nuclear physics) projects. We suppose that the total time of about 2-3 hours for each facility could be considered. We also assume overview talk about Cycleur project.

Hence, this presentations and following discussion can take about one and half day. Half a day may be reserved for visit to the Rez cyclotron. Wednesday morning can be reserved for meeting of CENP task force, which was formed by NPB EPS and NuPECC, together with other participants of meeting with the aim to discuss our future cooperation including formulation of the possible projects to EC. More general NEEN topics could be discussed, too.

We have a reservation at the Academy of Sciences conference house (Villa Lanna in Prague) from March 14 (Monday) to March 16. Accommodation is reserved in the adjacent to Villa Lanna guest house from March 13 (Sunday), arrival already on March 12 is possible. Unfortunately, there was no alternative for other date at the time of submitting our reservation.

Our institute can cover local expenses for two participants from each NEEN country. Unfortunately, we cannot cover travel expenses.

Please, let us know your opinion and comments. Particularly:

a) is the scope and program of the meeting as sketched above appropriate
b) have you any other suggestions as concerns the meeting and its program
c) will people from your laboratory participate
d) if yes, please, guess how many
e) what would be topics of your presentations

We are looking forward to your response
